Fifth Years, Lesson one Empty
PostSubject: Fifth Years, Lesson one   Fifth Years, Lesson one Empty9/3/2012, 9:21 pm

Professor Alcove expected more of her advanced students. There was not much she could do in this class with wands like she could in Charms. In charms she could assign the students to practice the given charm and be able to do it perfectly the next time she sees them in class. Whereas here, it was more of a conceptual. Students couldn't practice something, they would have to think beyond actuality and focus on what could be. Which is why her students always had to do essays; however Aliana hated to read them after awhile so she made sure her essays were short and to the point.

Welcome back students!

Magic has its own laws. It doesn't have to fit physics or any other system we know, but it has to be internally consistent. We can believe in an Invisibility Cloak, but if there are then cases where it doesn't work, we require a plausible a reason why or powers unknown but believable. We can believe that one can conjure useable items out of thin air. However there are laws that cannot be broken, no matter what.

Definite laws are these:
It is not possible to bring the dead back to life.
Less definitively, it is not possible to re-ensoul victims of a Dementor's Kiss.
Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration

The world is full of naturally-occurring magic aside from that created by humans. There are magical plants and animals as well as magical people. Whether there are any naturally-occurring magical objects is unknown as our world is filled with magical objects mostly enchanted or created by humans. There are many whose magical properties may be human in origin or not (e.g. Crystal balls)

Give me a brief essay (5-10 sentences only) on something you think is a magical items enchanted by wizards. I want to know why you think they were enchanted, how are they useful to our society, and if you can think of any advancements for your chosen object. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

The red head was curious to see what her class would write about. Would they have questions? She hoped they did, Ali didn't feel like sitting at her desk, silently for the whole period. She had a feeling that if she had to stay quiet she would get the kids off topic and begin to discuss pranks....which when she thought about it didn't sound like such a bad idea.

Cass walked into Magical theory with a mixed feeling. She was did like this class--or at least the discussions--but she hated writing the essays. They were so opinionated and it was just annoying really. But at least it was for a grade, and an easy one at that. Cass sat down after greeting the professor and got to work on the assignment. She had no questions.
